Hello All! When driving or riding in a vehicle with an Airbag, make sure you sit as far back from the Airbag as possible in order to avoid serious injury or death & be sure to always use your Seatbelts as such on account of the fact that Airbags inflate at anywhere from 175-200 MPH! If you are the Driver, make sure your seat is adjusted properly & your Mirrors too! The Steering Wheel should also be at least about one foot in distance from your Chest to the center of the Steering Wheel for safer results. Airbags have been around for quite a while now & at first, the Automakers were reluctant to install them in cars as seatbelt usage was very low among the general public about 35 years ago & seatbelts are needed to keep you from hitting the Airbag as it inflates or as noted above serious injury or death can occur & the Auto Companies were very concerned about this as well. It was not until after Seatbelt Laws were enacted in several States back in the 80s & after Airbags were shown to be compatible with Seatbelts that the situation changed & now all vehicles have Airbags in them. As stated above, always use your seatbelt when in front of an Airbag whether you are a Driver or Passenger. Take Care & have a nice day.

I'm 15 and I sit about 3' from a passenger airbag. (No driving yet) I know that you should be about 18"-24" from the passenger airbag (and don't ride up front passenger at all if it's a 94-97 Dodge Caravan). I worry 36" is too far with new, safer-designed airbags as I am worried the airbag will not come far enough out for me to avoid my head hitting my knees. I'm 5'4"

Hello Jim! Don't worry about forgetting to log in- sometimes it happens. The Shoulder Belt should tighten-up in a collision to keep your Body from Jackniffing forward towards the Dashboard. Just move your Seat forward about another 12" & you should be fine. You really do not need to be too far away from the Airbag anyhow. However, I do understand your reluctance to be close to one. At least you're being sensible here. I've seen Drivers & Passengers way to close to the Airbag & that is very dangerous as an Airbag can kill you if you're very close to it as it can hit you in the Chest area very hard & stop your Heart. Take Care & have a nice day.
